An Introduction To The 7 Chakras

The chakra system is considered one of the energy centres of the subtle body. The word chakra means wheel, but really they are more like balls of energy. There are 7 major and 21 minor chakras within the energetic body. The major chakras are found in the midline of the body, starting with the root chakra at the base of the spine and ending with the crown chakra at the top of the head. The 21 minor ones are located mainly within the extremities and are connected to a major chakra.

Each of the major chakras are connected to specific body parts, emotions, and beliefs about self and our environment. When these energy centres are not in balance (too much or too little energy) pain and discomfort can occur in the physical body. Becoming aware of the subtle energetic changes within your body, and working with the chakra system can keep you healthy and happy. Each one is unique within its self but they all work together to balance the energetic system. It is very rare that one chakra is out of alignment and not affecting the other six in some way.

When a chakra becomes blocked, the flow of energy either decreases or increases within it causing it to either under or over perform. Blockages can be caused by; physical stress such as an injury or disease, emotional blockages can occur when we experience trauma or hold on to emotions such as anger or fear, and spiritual or energetic blockages can occur when we allow ourselves to be affected by others energy, and don’t practice strong energetic boundaries. All of these mentioned can be balanced on your own with the awareness of the chakras.

In the next several blog posts I will be going into depth on the 7 chakras, bringing awareness to each and discussing how you can balance them on your own at home.
